How to Choose a Cordless Drill

You can drill a hole and push screws with the same tool if it’s cordless, and you won’t have to worry about locating a socket near your job to power it. With so many various drill/driver models available, it’s easy to purchase more than you need.

The option is to purchase a drill based on your intended purpose. It makes no sense to spend $200 on a tool that will only be used to hang posters. It’s also not a good idea to spend $50 on a drill only to have the motor fail after a few hours of heavy use.

What Are The Different Types of Drills

Drills/drivers are tools that are used to drill holes and drive screws into wood, metals, or plastics. It is the most common type, and it’s what we’ll be looking at. Hammer drills perform the same thing, but they also feature a hammer mode that shakes the drill bit in and out for masonry drilling. They are slightly heavier than drills/drivers.

What Features To Look For In A Drill

Power – For cordless drills, power is calculated in battery voltage. To overcome resistance, more voltage means more torque-spinning strength. Drills with a greater voltage may bore large holes in construction timber and carpet. That’s a lot of strength. However, there is a cost to having more power: weight. A 9.6V drill weighs about 3 1/2 pounds, whereas an 18V drill can weigh up to 10 pounds.

Handle – The base of the handle flares out to minimize hand slippage and to make room for a battery. A T-handle provides better optimal balance, especially in bigger drills, so because the battery is situated beneath the weight and mass of the engine

Clutch – This prevents you from overtightening or shattering a screw. A broad range of clutch settings is essential because the clutch must slip when the torque on the screw gets too high, preventing the drill head from rotating.

Reverse– To remove screws from wood or other materials, you’ll need this tool. Without adjusting your grip, you must be capable of reaching the rotating switch or button using your thumb or fingers.

Motor– A brushless motor has a high efficiency, which means increased durability, power, durability, and less maintenance. Brushless motors are also lighter and quiet than traditional motors. A built-in light helps you see where you’re drilling or driving.
